Pop Up Notification: Location Permission Request
When setting up your Nanoleaf device on iOS, you might see a pop-up asking for location access. We get it, this seems odd for a lighting app! But don’t worry, we're not tracking your location.
So why do we need location permission?
This is not a glitch or something suspicious, it's a requirement set by Apple. Starting with iOS 13, Apple requires apps to request Location Access just to read your Wifi network name (SSID). That’s right.... even something as simple as checking your Wifi name needs permission! This is Apple's way of protecting your privacy, but we know the permission screen doesn't make this clear.
TL;DR | We need this info to help connect your Nanoleaf devices to your network during setup for a seamless connection. That’s it.
GRANTING PERMISSION
🆘 How to grant permission during initial setup
• When prompted, tap “Allow While Using the App”. This allows Nanoleaf access your network name so setup runs smoothly!
ℹ️ After setup is completed, the app doesn't keep using your location. In fact, you can choose to revoke permissions if you wish! [See below for the 'how-to'].

🆘How to grant permission if accidentally declined
If You Accidentally Said No Earlier:
• Open your iOS device's Settings app;
• Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services;
• Find Nanoleaf in the list;
• Change the setting to “While Using the App”;
• Go back to the Nanoleaf App and restart setup.
REVOKING PERMISSION
Still Feeling Cautious? Totally fair! You can grant permission just for setup, and then turn it off again afterward in your settings. We respect your privacy and we’ll never use this permission to track your location.
To Revoke Access After Setup (Optional):
• Open your iOS device's Settings app;
• Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services;
• Scroll down and select Nanoleaf from the list;
• Change the setting to “Never” if you no longer want the app to have access.
