This articles guides users through pairing their HomeKit/Thread "Non-Matter" bulbs launched prior to 2023. These versions do not support Matter and do not require a Matter controller or hub.
Applies to (Discontinued) Essentials Smart Light Bulbs (HomeKit/Thread model no.: NL45) and Essentials Smart Lightstrips (HomeKit/Thread model no.: NL55)

Quick setup for your HomeKit-compatible Essentials devices with no Matter hub required:
Step 1 • Open the Nanoleaf App on your iOS device.
Step 2 • From the Dashboard, tap the pencil icon in the top right.
Step 3 • Tap Add Device +.
You’ll now have two pairing options:
Option 1: Scan to Pair | Scan the HomeKit code (house icon) found:
• On the side of the bulb, or
• On the back of the lightstrip controller.
Option 2: Pair Manually | Tap “Use Pairing Code”.
• Press the Pair button on the device (bulb or controller).
• To help identify the device, tap the magnifying glass icon to make it flash (only available within 15 minutes of powering on).
• If you don’t want to flash the device, you can match the last three characters of the device name with the “ID:” label printed on it.
• Enter the 8-digit pairing code printed on the device to complete the setup.
Step 4
• Once connected, the app will ask for permission to access your network and look for available Thread networks.
• If a compatible Thread network is found, the app will automatically provision your device.
Step 5
• Give your device a name and assign it to a room in the Nanoleaf App.

Device Requirements: Ensure you are on the latest version of the Nanoleaf App.
Network Requirements: A 2.4GHz network is required (Nanoleaf products don’t work on 5GHz). Turn Bluetooth ON. 📲 Your mobile device must also be on 2.4 GHz during setup and Bluetooth must be turned ON.
Pairing Code: Find your QR code or 8-digit code on your Quick Start Guide or the back of your Controller/Bulb base.
