Pairing > Restricted Router or Limited Wifi Connection

Applies to select Nanoleaf devices: Original/Aurora Light Panel, Canvas, Shapes, Elements, and for users who wish to control their device(s) using the Nanoleaf App without internet access and/or experience limitations with their router or wifi connection.

No Internet? No Problem. Hotspot Mode As A Potential Solution

Hotspot mode lets your Nanoleaf Controller broadcast its own local Wifi signal. This is handy when you're:

✅ In an area with weak Wifi
✅ Using enterprise-style routers (i.e. enterprise-style routers)
✅ Setting up without internet access

There are some limitations within Hotspot mode noted below to be aware of, however, it’s a great workaround when you just want local control through the Nanoleaf App. For full functionality, you do need to be connect to a 2.4GHz Wifi network.

LIMITATIONS

❎ Unable to use Voice Control with a Smart home Assistant

❎ Cannot access your Nanoleaf Cloud Account in the Nanoleaf’s App Settings

❎ Cannot download new Scenes or Playlists from the Discover Tab, however, Our panels are equipped with hundreds of preset Scenes built right into the Controller or Control Square!

❎ Cannot perform Firmware Updates.

How-To: Hot Spot Pairing

Step 1

For Canvas, Shapes, and Elements:

• Press and hold the rhythm as well as the power for 30 seconds. All buttons on the controller will begin to flash five (5) times, indicating that the hotspot mode has been activated and is being broadcasted.

For Light Panels (Aurora/Original LPs):

• Hold both the Power button on the controller for 40 seconds.

• The LED will flash slowly at 10 seconds, then faster at 40 seconds.

Step 2

• To proceed the pairing process, navigate to the Wifi settings on your device. The device's Wifi will appear in the list of available networks as "Nanoleaf Product Line ####" (i.e. Nanoleaf Shapes ####)

Step 3

• Tap on the device to connect to its Wifi.

Step 4

• Open the Nanoleaf app > select ... More > Navigate to My Devices > Tap on ➕plus icon > Select the device (i.e. Shapes).

Step 5

• You will find the corresponding device as an available device listed with a magnifying glass. Selecting the matching device will prompt you to input the pairing code of the Nanoleaf Device and select "Done".

Step 6

•  A Setup Complete confirmation page  will appear on the screen

Step 7

• Tap Next at the top right corner to go to the “Name Your Device” screen and name your device, (i.e. Gimmy's office - Shapes).

Step 8

• Once you rename the device and select “Next” at the top right corner to the final step, which is configuration.

Step 9

• On the "Configure Your Device" screen, set up your Nanoleafs to align with the installation orientation shown. Tap, “Next” and the pairing process has been completed.
