Applies to Nanoleaf Desktop App & Windows 11 Users
If you’re seeing a thin yellow border around your screen when using Screen Mirror on PC, don’t worry, nothing is wrong on the Nanoleaf app!
This is a Windows privacy feature, not a bug. When an app captures or shares your screen (like Screen Mirror does), Windows may display a yellow outline to indicate that your screen is being recorded or shared.
🟨 Yellow border = Windows screen capture indicator
✅ Not a bug or hardware issue
⚙️ Can be disabled in Windows settings
— — —
Why does this happen?
Windows uses this visual indicator to:
✅Let you know when screen capture is active
✅Help protect your privacy
✅Prevent apps from recording your screen without your awareness
Because Screen Mirror needs access to your display to sync your lights, this border can appear automatically.
| Important notes⚠️ ✅ The yellow border is controlled by Windows, not the Nanoleaf app ✅ Disabling this setting will remove the border when using Screen Mirror ✅ You may need to restart or re-enable Screen Mirror after changing the setting |
How to remove the yellow border
You can disable this feature in your Windows settings by following these steps:
1 - Open Settings
2 - Go to Privacy & Security
3 - Select Screenshot borders
4 - Turn on: “Let desktop apps turn off the screenshot border”
If the issue persists:
Toggle Screen Mirror off and back on
Restart the Nanoleaf Desktop App
Ensure your app is updated to the latest version
