🆘TROUBLESHOOTING THREAD CONNECTIVITY ISSUES
Applies to Nanoleaf Thread-enabled, Matter Over Thread Devices
If you're having trouble connecting your Nanoleaf Essentials devices, the issue may be related to an unstable or misconfigured Thread network.
— — —
⚠️ How the Problem Might Show Up
• Essentials lights are missing from the Thread Network list or show up as 'Unreachable" (and grayed out) in the Nanoleaf App
• Devices appear as “Bluetooth” instead of “Thread” in the app.
• Lights may respond slowly or not respond at all to app or voice commands.
• Delays or errors when trying to change brightness, color, or power state.
• Devices occasionally disconnect and reconnect without warning.
• Automations (e.g., schedules or scenes) don’t run reliably or are inconsistent.

Follow the steps below to get your devices connected again and functioning as expected:
Step 1
Check for Firmware Updates
• Ensure that all Thread Border Routers (TBRs), such as Apple HomePods, Apple TV 4K, or Nanoleaf Thread-enabled devices, are running the latest firmware.
• Update your mobile device's OS to the latest version for optimal app and network performance.
Step 2
Power Cycle Your Thread Border Routers
• Unplug each Thread Border Router from power.
• Wait at least 2 minutes.
• Plug them back in.
This refreshes your Thread network and often resolves temporary connection issues.
Step 3
Verify Active Home Hub (Apple Home Users)
• Open the Apple Home app.
• Tap the three dots in the top-right corner.
• Go to Home Settings > Home Hubs & Bridges.
• Confirm that one hub is marked as “Active.”
This ensures there is an active Thread Border Router managing your devices.
Step 4
Confirm Thread Network in the Nanoleaf App
• Open the Nanoleaf App.
• Tap More (•••) in the bottom-right corner.
• Select Thread Network.
Make sure all Essentials devices are listed and connected to the same Thread network as your active Home Hub.
Step 5
Migrate Bluetooth Devices to Thread (if needed)
If some Essentials are connecting via Bluetooth instead of Thread:
• Turn off the Bluetooth-connected light (unplug or switch off at the wall).
• Wait 1 minute.
• Turn it back on.
This may prompt the device to rejoin the Thread network, if a valid TBR is available.
Step 6
Check IPv6 Support on Your Router
• Open your Wifi router settings.
• Ensure that IPv6 is enabled [Thread requires IPv6 to function properly].
Save any changes and restart your router if needed.
⚠️ If your devices still are not showing up under the Thread network:
✅ Double-check each step above.
