That sounds like a great smart home automation project! HomeKit, Alexa, and Home Assistant can all be used to trigger Nanoleaf scenes as part of an automation, but the response time depends on your smart home platform, network conditions, and how the automation is configured. Many users achieve fast response times, although a slight delay may occasionally occur depending on the ecosystem and the devices involved.

If you're using Alexa, we recommend first setting up your automation within the Alexa ecosystem so your security devices can trigger your Nanoleaf lights. For example, you can create an Alexa Routine that responds to a supported sensor or security event and turns your Nanoleaf lights bright red as part of the automation.

For exterior and entryway lighting, keeping lights at full brightness can help improve visibility around your home. If your goal is to assist security cameras, a steady, bright white light is generally more effective for capturing clear footage than flashing colored lights, as flashing effects can make it more difficult for cameras to record consistent detail. If you choose to use flashing red and white lights as an alert, consider using them in combination with bright white lighting to maintain visibility while also providing a noticeable visual alarm.
